Hussey Seating Company Awarded $2.8M Grant to fuel Job Growth

The grant is part of Maine Technology Institute MTAF 2.0 voter funded initiative
April 16, 2018 – North Berwick, ME – The Maine Technology Institute awarded Hussey Seating Company a $2.8M grant as part of MTAF 2.0 (Maine Technology Asset Fund 2.0). The grant will be used for infrastructure, equipment, and technology upgrades which will help the 183 year old company gain market share, increase revenue, and expand employment.
The $2.8M grant will be a part of an $8.2M project investment by the company. “We’re a Maine-based manufacturer that faces global competition every day. The only way for us to succeed is to keep our operation as smart and efficient as possible. Receiving this grant to strengthen our planned capital investment will help us upgrade equipment and facilities, improving our competitiveness so we can grow market share, revenue and jobs.,” said Gary Merrill, President & CEO of Hussey Seating Company. The grant required at least a matching of funds but Hussey Seating decided to triple the investment to maximize the grant’s impact.
Merrill continued with, “The Hussey family shareholders have always been committed to reinvesting profits into the Company’s growth, and like the good Yankees we are we make sure we get every bit of value out of our facilities and equipment. But it’s time for us to invest in some modernization so we can continue to further expand our business and provide more jobs for hard working Mainers. We can’t thank MTAF 2.0 and the Maine voters who allowed this initiative to come to fruition enough. I know this investment will do exactly what it was intended to; increase revenue and provide good jobs to Maine people.”
